Now first, I need to say that thist weren’t quite my first digital drawing. My first drawing tablet I purchased a few years before this. But admittedly it never saw much action. Mostly I did some sketching in Sai (which was the first digital drawing program I ever tried) and used it to color drawings I made traditionally. Later on I purchased a photoshop license which got about as much exercise as the Sai license did - which is to say - not very much.
In hindsight that is a huge amount of money that could have been better spent somewhere else. Getting an Ipad pro and with that the procreate app, was a bit of a game changer for me when it came to digital drawing. I still never did much painting in it, but I used it a lot for sketching and coloring traditional drawings.
It also gave way to my first attempt at a ‘speeddrawing’ challenge.
This was made in september back in 2016. In total, I made 3 paintings before going back to mostly just sketching. But it is still very interesting to look back and see how far I’ve come. I always loved watching artist’s progress over the years. So here you get to see one of mine.
Since then I’ve had 3 years of art focused Gymnasium (Denmarks version of the last years of high school) and after that 3 years of Animation school. So I won’t say the progress came out of nowhere.
This was a painting I did a month ago
